Privacy and cookies
Short version: I don't track you, I don't run analytics and I don't sell anything about you. The only cookies come from YouTube and Mapometer, and only if you say yes.
Who I am
This site is run by Simon Donnelly, trading as Run Adventurer, in Sandbach, Cheshire. You can contact me at hello [at] runadventurer.co.uk.
Cookies
The site itself sets no cookies and uses no analytics. When you first visit, it asks whether you're happy for two outside services to load:
- YouTube (Google) shows the route films. Even in its privacy-enhanced mode it stores information in your browser and sets cookies once a film plays. See Google's privacy policy.
- Mapometer shows the route maps with elevation profiles. It sets its own session cookies and Google Analytics cookies when the map loads. See mapometer.com.
If you choose no thanks, neither loads. You can still read every route, see a basic map and download the GPX. You can change your mind any time using Cookie settings.
Your choice is remembered in your own browser (local storage), so you're not asked on every page. That's strictly necessary to respect your choice and isn't shared with anyone.
Other things the site uses
- Basic maps use map tiles from OpenStreetMap, which don't set cookies.
- Route search looks up the town or postcode you type with postcodes.io to find nearby routes. Only what you type is sent.
- Near me asks your browser for your location, only when you press it, and uses it on your device to sort routes by distance. It isn't sent to me.
- Film thumbnails load from YouTube's image server (i.ytimg.com), which doesn't set cookies.
- Hosting is by Cloudflare, which keeps standard server logs for security and to keep the site running.
If you email me, I'll use your email address and message only to reply to you. I won't add you to a mailing list or use it for anything else, and I'll delete it when we're done if you ask.
Links to other sites
Links to Patreon, YouTube, Instagram, Facebook and my books site take you to those services, which have their own privacy policies.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask what information I hold about you, and ask me to correct or delete it. Just email me. If you're unhappy with how I've handled it you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
